A SCOTTSVILLE woman whose cellphone was snatched as she
drove through the city centre has expressed gratitude to the three men who
helped her.
Musa
Dube, Siyabonga Ndiweni and Bongani Mthembu were walking in the area, when they
saw the mugger attack Maritz.
The
trio chased after the mugger and shouted out that he was escaping with a
stolen cellphone.
The
man was apprehended by passers-by and the cellphone was recovered and returned
to Maritz, while the suspect fled.
Maritz
said she did not know how things would have turned out, if it had not been for
the three men.
She
said the men were really good people for not thinking of their own safety in
the situation but assisting her.
Maritz
said she owes them a great deal of thanks and that it was good to know there
are still good people willing to assist others.
Dube
said he was shocked when he saw the mugger strike Maritz and he knew he had to
help.
Mthembu
said he had heard people screaming and that is when he saw the suspect and
sprang into action.
While
Ndiweni said the element of danger involved in being a good person will always
be there, but urged people to assist when someone is in trouble.
Maritz
said she tried to open a case at Loop Street police station on Friday but
police were dismissive, saying her cellphone had been returned and that the
suspect had run away.
