eThekwini Municipality contractors resumed their
duties in Umlazi under police guard today morning.
There have been no municipal services for a week in the area, as a group of businessmen, believed to be trying to
circumvent tender processes, have been accused of
intimidating workers.
City contractors have allegedly been threatened and
forced to stop providing essential services, such as
waste removal in Umlazi.
Rubbish has been piling up, while water and electricity
faults are climbing.
The city said it refuses to be held to ransom and will not
entertain illegal activities.
Residents said they are fed up with the unhygienic situation.
