FORMER Msunduzi Municipality mayor Chris
Ndlela started his term as the new principal of the Mnambithi Tvet college
this week.
Ndlela said he
took the position so he can make a contribution to uplifting the education system
in our country.
He said he aims to
make a difference by changing the attitude most South Africans have toward
education by highlighting the many benefits that come from being educated.
Ndlela said there
is a shortage of skilled workers in South Africa and added that Tvet colleges offer a number of practical skills that are in demand in the country.
He urged people
not to look down upon Tvet colleges, saying they are in no way inferior to
universities.
The former mayor said
most unemployed graduates are university graduates, but very few Tvet graduates
will find themselves unemployed upon completion of their studies.
Ndlela said this
is because Tvet colleges equip their graduates with practical skills that are
needed.
When asked about
plans to combat the protests that are becoming a major concern for tertiary
institutions, Ndlela said he plans to work together with all stakeholders to
ensure that all grievances are addressed.
He said he cannot
say that there will be no protests, but will do his best to ensure that all
stakeholders are satisfied.
