UMGENI Water has planned a second water shutdown for the district for February 21, following Tuesday’s shutdown that left parts of Msunduzi without water this week.
Umgeni spokesperson Shami Harichunder said the shutdowns were planned to do essential maintenance to Midmar water works, which supplies water to various areas in the district.

Harichunder said the maintenance was on a raw water pipeline, which would enhance water supply security in future and that the shutdowns were essential to improve water security.
He said additional water was supplied to the municipalities ahead of the scheduled shutdowns to ensure users were not affected.
However, various areas in Msunduzi including Prestbury, sections of Imbali and Willowfountain experienced water outages during the shutdown.
Msunduzi Municipality spokesperson Thobeka Mafumbatha said although the shutdown was completed at 11 am on Wednesday, it would still take some time for water to be restored to all affected areas as some reservoir levels were only at five percent yesterday afternoon.

UMgungundlovu Distric Municipality said all consumers were strongly recommended to store water in containers or vessels.
