South Africans set to pay more for medical aid in 2017

South Africans will have to pay out up to 14% more for medical aid contributions in 2017.


As most open medical aid schemes will charge their members
substantial increases because many more people checked into
hospital last year, increasing medical inflation.

It has also emerged that medical aid schemes have been
detecting millions of rands in fraudulent transactions, with
Discovery nailing down R400 million last year alone.

Meanwhile, there has also been an increase in litigation
against medical practitioners.

Medical practitioners & insurance schemes say they have at times settled out of court for R20 million per case.
