PMB School counsellor case postponed again

The expected court appearance by a second accused yesterday, in the case in which a former primary school counsellor is charged with rape and sexual assault, did not happen.
At a previous hearing last month, the state separated one of the rape charges faced by the counsellor from the rest of his charges and asked the court to adjourn the matter to yesterday for a co-accused to be added to the charge sheet.

However, when the case was called yesterday, state prosecutor Rene Padayachee told magistrate M. Boikhutso that she had been requested to ask for the matter to be postponed, pending further investigations before the second accused is added.
Padayachee said the state did not want to bring the co-accused to court while investigations were outstanding.

The counsellor’s attorney, Wade Paul, said the defence did not object to the postponement but asked the court to order this as the final adjournment.
The request was granted by the magistrate, who adjourned the case to March 20.

Meanwhile, the former primary school counsellor has been indicted to stand trial in the Pietermaritzburg high court from July 31 to August 25 this year on a total of 10 counts of rape and sexual assault.
