Light vehicle collides with truck on N3

Paramedics responded to a collision on the N3 between the Shongweni off ramp and the toll plaza on the east bound lane, on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports from the scene indicate that a car traveling west bound veered across the centre median and collided with a truck on the eastbound lane.

Paramedics and rescue units arrived at the scene and found the crumpled remains of the car on the grass at the road side, with the occupants still trapped in the twisted metal.

The rescue officials worked tirelessly in the wet and misty conditions using the Jaws of Life to extricate the injured, while medics climbed onto the wreckage to stabilise them.

The patients were spinally immobilised before medics removed them from the wreckage.

They were then transported to a nearby hospital for the specialised care that they required.

Authorities were also present at the scene for investigations.
