A boy was allegedly shot by a fellow pupil at a school in the Phoenix informal settlement on Friday afternoon.
According to Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha, paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the 18-year-old male had sustained life-threatening injuries.
The advanced Life Support paramedics worked fervently to stabilise the patient.
The pupil was transported to a specialised hospital, where he remained in a critical condition.
Details surrounding the incident were still unknown, but police were investigating further.
