The YMCA Pietermaritzburg held a dinner on Monday, which celebrated the strides made by the organisation in partnership with all its stakeholders.

YMCA is a community-focused nonprofit organisation consisting of various programmes including The Economics Entrepreneurship Education Programme(TEEP), after school programmes incorporating homework clubs, computer lessons and youth development.
The organisation was established in 1844.

YMCA Pietermaritzburg chairperson Nompumelelo Mthembu said their board has a much bigger vision for the organisation than what is currently evident, and added that their property and location, which is central, will contribute towards making their vision a reality.

Mthembu said the dinner was in honour of those who attended, as a delegation of YMCA representatives from countries such as America were also present for the event.

She said their purpose was to make a difference and that it is such a pleasure to serve so that the next generation become empowered and have a better future.
The delegation, which will leave the country at the end of this week, today visited Mpumelelo high school in the France township, where TEEP was introduced to teachers and learners at the school.

Mlungisi Ntshangase, who is part of the YMCA board, said one of the few things that the organisations has not yet overcome is the challenge of getting more  people to voluntarily participate in pushing the organisation forward.
