KwaZulu-Natal police believe they have made a breakthrough in the murder investigation of a Nongoma municipality internal audit manager who was gunned down last year.
Zweli Archie Duma was
shot dead at his home on August 16 shortly after attending a municipal
meeting.
Police
spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said the accused, Phakamani Innocent
Mthembu was expected to appear at the Nongoma Magistrate's Court on Thursday for
allegedly killing Duma.
An intensive
investigation by the provincial tactical team led to the arrest of the accused
on Friday.
Mthembu first
appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Monday and his case was
remanded to Wednesday.
It was then
postponed to Thursday and was transferred to the Nongoma Magistrate's Court where he is expected to apply for a Legal Aid lawyer.
