The South African Police Service has warned the public to beware of the current bank deposit scam doing the rounds.
An unsuspecting woman from Bergville recently fell trap to the scam.
She received a phone call from a certain department at which he had an account registered, informing her that her installment has changed.
She was thereafter ordered to deposit money into a given account to rectify the problem.
Sadly, after depositing funds into the bank account number issued to her, the victim realised she was scammed.
Police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig cautioned the public not to deposit money into bank accounts if they have not first confirmed with the department regarding changes to account numbers.
Struwig said as far as possible, people should request proof and verify banking details before making any deposits into accounts.

She advised the public to always be wary of what they agree to when speaking to agents over the phone.
