Five alleged suspects dead in Hilton

Five people were killed in a shooting incident in Hilton, Pietermaritzburg, during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 2am, paramedics from ER24 were called to the scene in Hilton where they found five men believed to be suspects, in a veld next to the road.

Upon assessment, they found that the men showed no signs of life and were later declared dead by paramedics.

It is understood that a policeman involved in the incident was wounded in the face during the shooting and was rushed to a nearby hospital by his colleagues.

The gang is alleged to have been responsible for a host of robberies around Pietermaritzburg, using a luxury car as a getaway vehicle.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident will be investigated by the police.
