KZN against donkey skin trade

THE Kloof and Highway SPCA are alarmed by the increase in donkey skin trade in the country and are urging the communities to report any suspicious behaviour linked to the problem.
According to reports, donkeys are being brutally slaughtered in many areas and their skins are packaged to be transported to China, where they are used in traditional Chinese medicine and for cosmetics.
SPCA outreach officer, Lisa Mörck said donkeys are being rounded up and stolen, then transported and inhumanely slaughtered for their skins.
Morck said one of the ways SPCA is fighting this battle is by educating the community at the SPCA’s Golden Paw Society meetings.
She said they have informative talks on the tragedy of the donkey skin trade, that has gripped the country.
