The Richmond Local Municipality and police have both confirmed that deputy mayor, Thandazile Phoswa sustained a fatal gunshot wound at her home in the Endaleni area in the early hours of this morning.
Police spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala said the circumstances surrounding the shooting are not fully known at this stage, but officers are at the scene.
Gwala said the members are still busy at the scene and that it is still unknown what charge will be opened because the circumstances are still being investigated.
Richmond spokesperson, Sibonelo Bhengu, said the whole community is in shock, as Phoswa's death comes soon after municipal manager Sibusiso Sithole was gunned down in Victoria Street last month.
