Court to decide whether Dlamini be held liable for SASSA crisis
As concerns are raised about how Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini survived the recent Cabinet reshuffle, the Constitutional Court will now have to decide whether or not she should be held personally liable for the South African Social Security Agency payment crisis.
Dlamini’s attorney’s will be applying for a condonation after her sworn statement to explain her conduct was submitted late, even though the minister insists that it was filed on time.
Dlamini has shifted the blame, saying she should have been tougher on Sassa officials about the plan to obtain a new payment service for social grants.
In her sworn statement, Dlamini claims that Sassa left her in the dark for almost four months after itself realising that it may be in trouble in terms of taking over the payment process from service provider Cash Paymaster Service.
